Impact Areas

Five lenses through which
DESMA Tech Limited designs everything.

These are not separate programmes. They are the integrated logic of every product, every service, and every partnership we build.

Impact Area 01

Food Safety & Quality

Safe food is a human right, not a competitive advantage. The gap between food safety standards in wealthy and poor countries is not a technical problem — it is a justice problem. DESMA Tech Limited’s food safety work spans the full manufacturing spectrum: from fresh produce and dairy to meat processing, flour milling, and food & beverage production.

Through DESMA Learn, DESMA Consult, and DESMA Comply we deliver food safety training, expert advisory, and intelligent digital compliance management across HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, BRCGS, IFS, GlobalG.A.P., Organic, KEBS, EAC, and Codex Alimentarius.

Standards covered: HACCP · GMP · ISO 22000 · FSSC 22000 · BRCGS · IFS · GlobalG.A.P. · Organic EU/NOP/JAS · KEBS · Codex · ISO 14001 · EAC

Climate Resilience & Sustainability

Africa’s agriculture is simultaneously among the most exposed victims of climate change and its most powerful potential solution. Shifting rainfall, extended droughts, rising temperatures, and soil degradation are present realities for African farmers and food manufacturers — not future risks.

DESMA Tech Limited’s climate work spans climate-smart agriculture training, ISO 14001 environmental management, food waste reduction, regenerative agriculture, and digital monitoring and decision-support tools. We connect African smallholders to carbon markets and climate finance where possible.

Community Empowerment & Wealth

The agri-food value chain is, across much of Africa, a mechanism for extracting value from communities rather than creating it within them. DESMA Tech Limited builds systems that put value back in the hands of the people who earn it.

Our work includes cooperative capacity building, women-led enterprise support, youth agri-entrepreneur programmes through Business Incubation, the DESMA Talent Register connecting certified graduates to industry employment, and market linkage through DESMA Connect that removes extractive intermediaries.

Business Incubation — DESMA Tech Limited nurtures small agri-food businesses and entrepreneurs with mentorship, digital tools, access to markets, and connections to finance — creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods across Africa.

Market Access & Trade

Africa’s intra-continental food trade is a fraction of what it should be. DESMA Tech Limited’s market access work includes export readiness advisory, international certification support, trade finance and climate finance facilitation, supply chain traceability, and advocacy for Africa-compatible trade standards.

DESMA Connect, when launched, will be the AI/ML-powered digital infrastructure that makes Pan-African and international market access real for agri-food SMEs — from established processors to DESMA-incubated startups — that have earned their certification.

Research, Policy & Thought Leadership

The long-term DESMA Tech Limited ambition is to become Africa’s leading independent knowledge institution on agri-food systems — a think tank that earns its authority through practice, its credibility through evidence, and its influence through demonstrated impact on policy and livelihoods.
